Fund Details

Your project must apply digital technology development to improve manufacturing processes within a production facility, to deliver more environmentally sustainable production processes. The competition comprises of two strands:

Strand 1: Digital Innovation with Manufacturing Data – “data centric”.

Strand 2: Digital Innovation in Manufacturing Processes – “predicated on other Industrial Digital Technologies (IDTs)”.

Projects must either be focused on:

  • A single high-intensity process (e.g furnace etc).
  • A sector with high-intensity processes where the benefits can be shown to be easily cascaded (e.g. bread overs, industrial chilled processing etc).
  • A low to medium emission intensity processes demonstrating a path to cascade to a large number of other manufacturing businesses and manufacturing sectors.

Your project must focus on developing digital solutions to:

  • Reduce the amount of waste or other in-process material losses through the manufacturing steps
  • Reduce the energy consumed by a manufacturing process
  • Better sequence or schedule the manufacturing operations to reduce material and/or energy consumption
  • Better separate waste materials to facilitate downstream material reuse

Eligibility

  • Projects must be collaborative consortia, business-led, involving at least 1 SME.
  • Collaborations must include both manufacturing capabilities and digital technology capabilities.
  • Projects can focus on 1 manufacturing sector, ideally multiple manufacturing sectors.
  • Must demonstrate scalability to benefit a significant portion of UK manufacturing, and/or deliver technology that can be exploited through export to overseas manufacturers to reduce global emissions.
